CEN Juncos Solar, LLC AT A GLANCE
The Project is located across the street from Medtronic Puerto Rico Operations Company, located in Juncos, Puerto Rico.
Medtronic selected Clean Energy Nexus (“CEN”) to provide a tier 1 solar photovoltaic (“PV”) system to replace the previous ground mount system that was destroyed by Hurricane Maria in 2017. CEN provided a bigger system than the original, converted half of the ground mount area into carports to provide additional parking Medtronic employees, and designed the system to withstand hurricane wind gusts up to 185-mph.
Annually the system produces clean “green” energy, equivalent to removing the following amounts of traditional fossil fuels, or “brown” energy.
HOW WE HELPED MEDTRONIC
Clean Energy Nexus partnered with Medtronic Puerto Rico Operations (“MPROC”) to rebuild a larger and more durable version of their previous aground mount system that was destroyed by Hurricane Maria in 2017. CEN helped remove the damaged system and performed an environmental assessment to ensure the site met environmental safety standards before installing the new system. The new system also provided additional parking for the Medtronic Puerto Rico Operations Company staff, which was previously parking along a side street which was quickly filled and of inadequate capacity for the staff. The new carport parking lot now provides over 650 parking spaces, and over 600 of those spaces are shaded by the tuccarports. In addition to providing MPROC with significant savings on their electric bill, and additional parking convenience, the system CEN installed is more robust and able to withstand hurricane-force winds in excess of what Hurricane Maria exhibited in 2017.
